An invisible character is a real Unicode character that takes up a spot in your text but shows nothing on screen. People use it for blank usernames, empty message bubbles, and clean spacing in a bio. Tap the tool above to copy one, then paste it wherever a normal space will not do the job.
Why a normal space does not work
When you try to leave a name or a message blank with the spacebar, most apps erase it. They trim plain spaces and reject a field that is empty, which is why a spacebar name simply will not save. An invisible character gets around this because it is not a space. The app sees a genuine, non-empty character and accepts it, but that character happens to render as nothing. The Hangul Filler, for example, is classified in Unicode as a letter rather than whitespace, so validators treat it as real input.
The invisible characters that work
There are several blank characters, and they behave differently. The brackets in the reveal column show how much width each one takes.

Not sure which to use? Start with the Hangul Filler (U+3164). It works in the most places, including gaming names and Discord. If a field rejects it, switch to the Braille Blank (U+2800). Those two cover almost every case.
What people use invisible characters for
- Blank names. An empty display name or nickname on Discord, games, and social.

Where it works, and where it gets stripped
Blank names using the Hangul Filler or Braille Blank work across Discord, many mobile and PC games, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Zero-width characters are the least reliable, because some platforms remove them during server-side checks to cut down on spam and impersonation. Rules also change with app updates, and a stricter field like a login or a unique handle may reject all of them. The practical approach is to paste your invisible character, confirm the field actually saves as blank, and keep a backup character ready in case the first one is filtered.

Invisible characters are fine for blank names, spacing, and empty messages. They should not be used to hide banned words, dodge moderation, or impersonate someone, and most platforms now detect and remove hidden characters used that way. Keep it to the harmless, cosmetic uses above.
A note on accessibility
Screen readers handle invisible characters unevenly. Some skip them, others announce them as “blank” or by a technical name, so a name made entirely of invisible characters can be confusing or unreadable for someone using assistive technology, and it gives them nothing to identify you by. If people need to find, tag, or address you, keep at least a readable core to your name rather than making it fully blank.
